What Are Good Exercises For A Dancer To Strengthen Their Back?

Hi! I am a 16 year old dancer who practices jazz and ballet, but my teacher has informed me that my leaps would be a lot better if I strengthened my back. Does anyone have any good back strengthening exercises for a dancer? I’m thinking about enrolling in Pilate’s if I have time, but until then I want to start strengthening my back at home. Thanks for your help

The best exercise for your back is called a “good morning.” You can check it out here: http://www.myfit.ca/exercisedatabase/vie…
You don’t have to use the barball – I often kneeled behind a stablility ball, leaned my chest and stomach onto it, and then simply raised up and down from that position.
Remember to work your abdominals as well to compliment your back exercises.
And, as always, don’t forget to stretch! Your muscles will not develop properly if you don’t stretch before and after training (but you’re a dancer you probably know that already).
