Your correct on your assumption that eating more meals in a day is better for weight maintenance and health reasons. Four is not the magic number though. Five and sometimes six small meals a day can be done and will keep your energy levels high.
You should eat when you feel hungry. Not when you think you should eat and not because its time to eat but when you are physically hungry. Hunger is a physiological response. Don’t confuse appetite with hunger. One suggestion for portion control is to look at your hands. The palm of your hand is a good measure of the size of a serving or protein for a meal. If you were to add a carbohydrate with this serving or protein again look at your palm. If its a processed carb then make it equal to the protein, in other words the same size as the palm of one hand. IF its a non-starchy vegetable then it can be two palms.
The best exercises to do for weight loss, IMHO, are body weight exercises. This of course assumes you have no equipment or the desire to purchase any. Body weight exercises are superior. Nothing beats push ups, pull ups, FULL body weight squats, lunges and hip extensions. Done in a circuitfashion you’ll be fit in no time.
    I hope this helps.

I recommend a mixture of weightlifting and cardio to lose weight. For weight lifting I highly recommend this site http://stronglifts.com/ . Stronglifts is a non bs site and the exercise takes about an hour. I’ve seen people gain 20 pounds of muscle and lose 50 pounds of fat within months thanks to this program. Weight lifting wont make you look bulky if done right.
For diet, do not believe all that media bullshit about some people having special metabolisms and need different diets. All you have to do is eat healthy and avoid items that will cause you to gain weight. Also eat every 3 hours.
    Some healthy tips are
Use olive oil and grapeseed oil ONLY! other oilshave excessive amounts of saturated fat little to no monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. Monounsaturated/polyunsaturated fats make the body not store fat and do soooo many good things for your body.
Eat only organic, this is very hard but once you’re 90 years old and don’t have any pain other people do you’ll be happy :) !
Avoid all chain restraunts, not a single chain I know of is really healthy except for whole foods.
STOP DRINKING sodas, juices, milk, all that stuff! Also avoid any items with fake sugars they are extremely, extremely unhealthy.
Drink 1 gallon of water a day instead! This is extremely healthy and prevents kidney stones, headaches, ect..
Do not go on any special diet or pill! These are proven to be unhealthy
